SUNDAY, JUNE 22, 2008 IN PACIFICA, CALIFORNIA

12 NOON: PADDLE OUT MEMORIAL FOR WOODY BROWN AT BOATDOCKS, SOUTH END OF LINDA MAR BEACH, PACIFICA

4 PM - 8 PM: SANCHEZ CONCERT HALL, 1220 LINDA MAR BLVD., PACIFICA, CA featuring HULA PERFORMANCE, LIVE HAWAIIAN MUSIC, A SCREENING "OF WIND AND WAVES: THE LIFE OF WOODY BROWN", LOTS OF WOODY STORIES AND A POTLUCK DINNER.

You are invited to a very special event on Sunday, June 22, 2008 in Pacifica, CA to honor the life of Woody Brown, the late, great pioneering surfer, sailor and glider pilot who passed away in April at age 96.

For those of you who surf, please join us at Noon June 22nd for a traditional surfer paddle out memorial at Boatdocks, located at the south end of Linda Mar Beach in Pacifica.   Bring some flowers to scatter in the ocean in memory of Woody and stick around for a while afterwords for an enjoyable surf session, if conditions permit.

Later, beginning at 4 PM, the doors will open at the Sanchez Concert Hall, 1220 Linda Mar Blvd. for a Woody Brown Festival of sorts.  Admission is free but we ask that everyone bring some healthy food to share, potluck style.  What should you bring?  We suggest that folks follow the time honored potluck meal tradition of bringing a salad or appetizer if your last name begins with the letters A thru I, a main dish if your name begins with the letters J - Q, or a dessert if your name begins with the letters R - Z but if you have something in mind to bring but that dish doesn't fit in with the above suggestion, just bring it and ignore the above.  We ask that you choose to bring the healthiest food you can think of since one of the organizers of the event is on a major health kick because he hopes to live and surf as long as Woody did.  (Smile.)

Beverages will be provided but you are welcome to bring your own beverage if you wish.

At the Sanchez Concert Hall, we will be offering an interesting range of entertainment that we think Woody would have enjoyed himself: a Hula dance performance, live Hawaiian style music, live surf music by the Wander Ins and a screening of the documentary "Of Wind and Waves: The Life of Woody Brown" that was recently completed by local filmmaker extraordinaire, David L. Brown (no relation).  We'll also set aside some time to share some great Woody stories as well as with one another about how Woody's life impacted many of us in lots of wonderful ways.

Since it's a Sunday night, we plan on wrapping things up around 8 PM, so that those of us who have to work for a living on Monday morning can go home early enough to get a good night of sleep.
