The Kahuna Kupuna Divisions are set up in five-year increments for all men and women surfers 50 years of age and over and in 10 year increments for men and women surfers between 40 and 49 years of age.  The contest is set up in this way to give all contestants a chance to surf against other surfers who are close to their own age.  Separate divisions will be set up for both men and women as well as shortboarders and longboarders.  The entry fee is $60 ($20 less than last year) and contestants can compete in the longboard or shortboard sub-divisions or both as well as the Intergenerational Team Division.  All net proceeds from the contest will be donated to Pacifica's Environmental Family, a non-profit fiscal sponsorship organization that supports volunteer run, community based environmental groups in Pacifica. 

PLEASE NOTE: Men and Women compete in separate divisions.

INTERGENERATIONAL TEAM DIVISION

The new INTERGENERATIONAL TEAMS DIVISION (ITD) was created in 2006 as a way to celebrate the multi-generational aspect of surfing.  For surfers under 20 years of age, who can only compete as a team member in the ITD, the entry fee is just $30.  For surfers 40 and over, the entry fee of $60 for their division covers participation in the ITD division as well.  We have room for up to 6 teams.

The guidelines for the INTERGENERATIONAL TEAMS are as follows:

-       Each team must represent 3 generations - youngest & oldest must be at least 36 years apart with at least one other surfer representing the middle generation who is at least 18 years older than the youngest surfer and at least 18 years younger than the oldest surfer on the team.

-       Teams must be comprised of 6 surfers.

-       Team members do NOT have to be related to one another.

-       Teams must include at least 1 surfer under the age of 20.

-       Team members can ride any length board, including a boogie board or surf ski.

-       Team members can be comprised of both male and female surfers.

-       Each team will surf together in their own 15-minute heat.  This is intended to promote collaboration among team members and between generations towards a common goal – to win and, most importantly, have fun.

-       The team with the best team score wins.

-       Each team should appoint a team captain to coordinate submission of entry forms, to inform us of who will be on your team and the age of each member.

We encourage you to form an INTERGENERATIONAL TEAM for our contest in 2009.  Recruit your favorite grommets, middle-agers and Kupunas soon . . . or they might end up on another team!!!
